Can the life be lived alone? Certainly, simple people ask themselves this question. But, is it in their cases their own choice? Or, can’t they find the way to meet a mate? Anyway, human relationships are a very wide subject. One of the aspects is how two people can meet each other, or how a single person can find a boyfriend or a girlfriend.
At first, it is useless to use our energy everywhere. It is safe to economize it, because the way to find the person corresponding to ourselves is long and difficult. That is why it is more sure to have a strategy. Before all, we have to ask ourselves which type of person we would like to approach. For that, it is necessary to set a profile about physical characteristics, about characteristics of the mind, such as the feelings, the hobbies and so on. However, until then, the search remains in a theoretic step. Now, the most important is to act. The most difficult things to do are yet to come.
The second step is to list people who can help you, especially people who have male or female friends in their relationships. After, with a lot of patience, we can visit them or call them. At this point, we can explicitly ask them their opinions without beating around the bush, and try to convince them to help us. Whatever, if we are unsuccessful to obtain their cooperation, we can alter this plan. A good idea is to begin to go in the fashionable places, like cafés, restaurants, clubs, and so on. At this time, to be courageous is necessary, because we have to use subtle ways to go toward new people and overall, we are frequently alone.
Third, what kinds of attitude make us interesting? To be witty is an advantage. We can also speak humorously to start a conversation. Meanwhile, to behave romantically can help to keep touch and to initiate a first contact. Next, with imagination and a lot of work, we can make him or her think that we are the most wonderful person on Earth, on the condition that we don t bother her or him.
Finally, to share our life with someone else is fun, but it can take a lot of time before we can find someone. There is not only one way, but there are as many ways as people. All people are different and each has to choose his or her own way.

It Was An Ordinary Day in B Reading

It was an ordinary day in B Reading class. Our text for the day was a selection about marketing, products, naming new products, and advertising. It was a perfect opportunity for group work. A bit a shuffling to get people settled in their groups, and they were ready for the assignment. Here's what they had to do:
Create a product--either a snack food or a drink--give it a name, make an ad.
This type of work in class calls for a lot of creativity, and the students were certainly up to the task, as you can see below.
In addition to the print ad, they also made a 30-second radio commercial. I'm still looking for a way to upload the sound files.
The synergy and energy of the students turned an ordinary day into an extraordinary experience for all of us.
Come to think of it, the extraordinary is the ordinary in this class!

Kyoto, My Hometown

My hometown is Kyoto. Kyoto has more than 1200 years of history and is a very interesting city in Japan. Kyoto’s seasonal changes are superb. Especially, so many people visit Kyoto in the sightseeing seasons of spring and autumn. Cherry blossoms in the spring, and autumn colours (=maple) in the autumn. It is terrific! Many tourists visit Kyoto to see those.
I think the reason for the popularity is because the beautiful buildings of the shrines and temples combine with the scenery of the cherry blossoms or autumn colours. I stated above about the shrines and temples in Kyoto. This is one of the characteristics. As I have said, history of Kyoto is international sightseeing city. If you visit Kyoto, you’ll encounter many shrines and temples. I want to recommend “Kiyomizu-dera (=temple).”
It’s sacred to the Statue of eleven-faced Kannon (=the Goddess of Mercy)” and the façade is a national treasure. It says “Kiyomizu stage” on the façade. Moreover, there is a proverb. “Jump off the Kiyomizu stage” means “pluck up your courage and make a big decision.” You can see a glorious view out over the city from “Kiyomizu stage.”
Next, “Maiko” and “Geiko” are famous too in Kyoto. Even today, entertainment areas where they practice their art fluorish in Kyoto. “Maiko” and “Geiko” learn dancing and how to play musical instruments like “Koto” to entertain their customers with artistic skill. “Maiko” are women undertaking training to become “Geiko” and have a flashy appearance. However, parlors where visitors can directly meet a “Maiko” and “Geiko” turn away first-time customers. In other words, it is rather difficult to find women. I think that’s why they are really popular among visitors. You visit “Gion” on the chance that you might meet them.
Speaking of Kyoto, don’t forget about “Kyoto cuisine.” It’s delicate, refined, and tender. High class Japanese restaurants serve “Kyoto cuisine,” which is especially marvelous. If you want to eat, it might be expensive but sometimes can be eaten for affordable prices. Carefully made lunches that are reasonably priced are very good!
You can enjoy discriminating palate and you can enjoy visually too. In addition, we call “Obanzai” our home cooking. “Obanzai” means “plain food.” Kyoto’s tables support not flamboyant Kyoto cuisine but “Obanzai.” What’s more, I want to recommend two places. One is “Nishiki Market.” The Nishiki Market extends for 390 meters through the center of Kyoto. Shops selling fresh food such as fish have lined this marketplace for many years, and this area is also known as “Kyoto’s kitchen.”
Next, I want to recommend “Machiya.” “Machiya” is a building constructed in a style that has been handed down from old time in Kyoto. Many “Machiya” combine the owner’s residence and business. In recent years, the beauty of these classic buildings has been reappraised, and they have attracted attention following transformations into restaurants, cafés, galleries, and so on.
Then, there are many traditional industries. For example, “Nishijin textiles,” “Yu-zen dyeing,” “Kiyomizu ceramic wares,” “Fushimi refined sake,” and so on. We have many cultural assets too.
Finally, Kyoto’s fascination is harmony with old and new.

Japanese Domestic Brand Cars

I like Japanese cars, but sometimes Japanese brands are funny. Lexus was born in the U.S, but it is a Toyota. In 2006, Lexus was sold in Japan. Anyway, cars are kind of my hobby. Especially, I like watching car advertisements on TV. Japan has a lot of domestic cars, especially compact cars and minivans.
I think Japanese national brand cars should be sold in North America. Some cars have different names between North America and Japan. Some cars have the same names between North America and Japan, but different cars. For instance, there is Honda Odyssey. Japan has a different Odyssey.
Japanese car companies have lots of money, more than North American companies because Japanese car companies have great parts companies, and they succeeded to make cars efficiently. Toyota and Honda can make almost all cars in one factory. They can almost make the cars by the mechanization more efficiently than GM and Ford. There are a lot of lineups in Japan with a little demand because Toyota and Honda can make from Sedan to Minivan on one platform.
They spend a lot of money on TV-CM. Japanese people think English is a cool language, so car ads have used lots of English words. It’s cool. I like Honda CMs because Honda’s commercial has humorous ideas and creativity.

My Favourite Food

I want to introduce my favorite food to the students. It is one of the famous foods
from Korea. Almost all people enjoy eating it and love it. It is named fatback; it is a part of pork. If you don’t know fatback, it is like a part of bacon. Why many people enjoy eating it is because it has several different tastes and you eat it together with some different vegetables.
I’d like to eat it with kimchi, mushrooms, and onions. These help to remove the
oily taste. Also a few vegetables, fatback, and rice made fried rice will bring
satisfaction.
In addition, I was interested in the fact that new style fatback and fatback source
is discovered every year. So many people enjoy eating at anytime.
In the picture, you can see what fatback is and feel the atmosphere of restaurant. You can know.

My Preferred Bands of Hard Rock

When I was 13 years old, I met with my block friends every afternoon. We played soccer and rode bicycle. One day, my friend Angelo said "Come on everybody, I’d like you to listen to this group." He put his cassette in the radio recorder and every body listened quietly and carefully to the song. I had never listened to it before. The drums hit my head and I followed the rhythm with my feet. He said, "It is Hard Rock." Now after many experiences, my preferred groups are Metallica and Aerosmith. I would like to talk about them, and I can say that I will never stop to listening to Hard Rock.
The first time that I listened to his song, "Nothing Else Matters," I can’t believe the incredible sounds of the guitar. Since that moment I knew that Metallica will be one of my preferred groups. This band was formed in 1981 in L.A. by the drummer Lars Ulrich, who posted advertisements in the newspaper and after, he received answers of the members. Metallica has been characterized by its instrumental style and aggressive music. They have 9 studio albums, 22 music videos, 43 singles and they won seven Grammy awards and have 5 consecutive albums debut at number one on the Billboard 200. I won’t forget their concert in Bogota. It was amazing. At the moment I am enjoying their new production issued in 2008.

I am convinced that Aerosmith has much better production of video music. I can see this because they have an excellent thematic, wonderful effects, innovative themes, creative style, and incredible music and lyrics. Aerosmith was created by Steven Tyler 38 years ago, in Sunapee, New Hampspire and still has the same five members. Actually, they have introduced more than 14 productions in the market that won many platinum and gold records. They have had 21 one song chart in the top 40 of the Billboard hot 100. Songs like "Cryin," "Crazy," and "I don’t want to miss a thing," among others. In addition to recording and performing music, Aerosmith has also been involved with film and video games. Aerosmith will be working in the rock scene for many years.
In conclusion, I had listened to many groups and styles of hard rock, such as Bon Jovi, Poison, G&R, and other groups, but I am sure that Metallica and Aerosmith will be in the history of rock like two of the most important bands in the world and they will be recognized like The Beatles or the Rolling Stones in the future.

How to Find a Girlfriend

Do you feel lonely? Don’t stay at home! Let’s go out and get some fresh air. Don’t be afraid to date girls. Who wants to live with a dog throughout his life? Do you know why you don’t have a girlfriend? The reason isn’t because you are not handsome enough. It is because you are shy. I know that it is not easy to become sociable. But don’t worry about that! If you are not extremely ugly, you also can have a girlfriend. That’s not a serious problem for you. It is because I’m not handsome too. But I have a girlfriend. There are some ways to find a girlfriend.
If you don’t know how to date a girl, you can ask your friends who are good at these things. Your friends may teach you how to talk with the girls in funny ways and don’t be shy. The most important thing is that they can share their experience with you. Take, for instance, that you can send a gift to the girl when you see her on the first date. It can bring her a good image of you. However, you may still not know what to do. You can buy some books that the topic is "How To Find A Girlfriend." I think those books can give you some help. The next thing is that you can do some practice with any female friends before you date your target girl.
If you cannot find any way to meet some girls, don’t worry about that! Maybe you are in a boys school. However, most of your classmates must have girlfriends. You can ask them to organize dinners with their female friends, or walks, or some other activities. If the girl is pretty good, you can ask for her cell phone number or MSN. For my experience, making the girls feel happy is very important. Let them know that you are very funny. If you already have these experiences, don’t waste any chance to date the girls. One day, you may see your dream girl on the street or something else you haven’t seen before. Don’t be shy. Just do it and ask her cell phone number or MSN. If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t matter. It’s because you don’t do this or you may regret it all your life. On the other hand, you can also meet girls at pubs, through friends, library, and any public places.

The Santa Claus Parade

On November 21st,I went to watch the Santa Parade with my friends. The weather was so cold. It was 20 below. But I felt more cold. We went near to the Christmas tree. Then I took pictures with a big bear. And then we went to the opposite side of Mama Panda Restaurant. There were so many people. We waited for Santa Claus parade there. It took 40 minutes. My feet were so painful. I thought I'll die.
Finally the Parade started. So many floats passed in front of me. They were so beautiful. I was impressed by the floats. I took many pictures, but unfortunately my camera's batteries were dead. I wanted to cry. So I just watched. And then we went to get some hot-dogs and hot chocolate. It was so good. And we stood in front of the fire. So I felt so warm. I was so happy. And then I looked at the big Christmas tree. It was so good. I won't forget that day forever.

So it is time for you to look for a boyfriend because he can give you a wonderful attitude to life. But, when you two live for a long time, you will find many of his shortcomings and you can't bear it anymore, and the reason that makes you to start a relationship can't let you to maintain the feelings of love. That means you should say good-bye to him. If you are an "easy come, easy go" person, you can choose to talk to him face to face or send an e-mail to him or phone him.If you are a softie, you can't bear to see him cry. How can you do? It is easy if you follow this method.
First,I will teach you some of the most basic ways. In China, we have a slang, "First cry, second argue, third hanged." It’s original intent is to give women some suggestion to restore their partners, but I think it can also be used to get rid of your boyfriend,if you just think on my way.
So,what should you do? First is to cry. Most of the men are afraid of women crying because their self-esteem is always too high. So enjoy your tears, cry as much as possible, no matter about big or small things. Cry until he can't bear it. Then he will leave you far away.
If the first way doesn’t work, then move on. Second is not to cry; it's to fight. You just need to keep annoying him until he can't accept it. Then, he will leave you too.
If that second way can't make him go, then you should use the final way, which is intimidation. He would be afraid and leave you quickly as he can. Those ways just a basic method for you to get rid of your boyfriend.
Next, I will teach your some methods that people commonly use.It is to ignore him. You just need to block him, such as don’t answer his call, and don’t reply to his e-mail. Don’t see him, and the better way is take a long vacation; maybe about a week is okay. Then,when you come back,he will complain to you that you left him alone. Actually,you just need to keep ignoring him. Later,he will silently depart.In fact,you can be totally reversed. That means you can choose to be his Queen. You are the biggest. So, do your best to spend his money to buy whatever you want, and promise a lot of empty promises to him.The most important is to do some things to let him feel no reputation in front of his friends. Coming of Age Day in Japan

The coming of age ceremony is celebrated on the second Monday of January. Its Japanese name is "Seijin no hi." It was established as a national holiday in 1948.
On this day, all young people who turn 20 years old in that year take part in a coming of age ceremony. In Japan, twenty is the age considered as the beginning of adulthood. It is also the minimum legal age for voting, drinking, and smoking. The ceremonies are now usually organized by local governments, but they are sometimes also hosted by schools, companies, and public organizations.
These days, men generally wear business suits to the ceremony, although once in a while men wearing dark-colored kimonos can be seen. Almost all women choose to wear traditional Furisode. A furisode is a style of kimono with long sleeves that drape down. Also, women wear special white fur collars. A full furisode kimono can cost as much as a new car. Some families might rent one or pass one from mother to daughter.
In fact, I'm 21 years old now. so I have attended a coming of age ceremony already. I also wore a pink furisode that day. It was precious day for me because I don't have many chances to wear a furisode though I'm a Japanese girl. Maybe I won't wear a furisode for a while.
It is the memory that is unforgettable for me on the coming of age day.

When I was a kid, I loved to plant. For example, rose, peach, cactus and bamboo, etc. Even now, I love to plant things. Now I have a little garden near my grandparents' house. Sometimes, I'll go back to my grandparents house and take care of my little garden.
And I also liked to climb a tree and catch some little fish. Every day after school, I would go with my classmate to catch little fish and tadpoles. My mom said that I was just like a boy, not a girl. The English word is tomboy.

The Disadvantages of Snow

Snow makes a lot of problems, but the disadvantages of snow are always hidden. Most of the people think that snow is very interesting and romantic. Especially for the tropical country, snow is a good selling point for the travel agency. It is because these people never see snow. This is a novel experience for them. They can’t find out the disadvantages of snow because they just have a short-term trip, not a long- term living. Beside that, people also like to play with snowballs and make a snowman for fun. However, they only know the advantages of snow. They don’t know how many accidents happen everyday and how inconvenient things are for people because of snow. Thus, I am going to talk about the disadvantages of snow. They always come up in three ways: clothes, accidents, and limited sports.
First of all, let’s talk about the clothes problems. When it is snowing, you must wear a lot of clothes to keep warm, such as jacket, gloves, scarf, hat, and snow boots. They can protect us for fear that you get cold, but you have to spend a lot of time to wear it. If you suddenly want to go outside, you must solve the clothes problem first. In addition, if you stay outside in the snow for a long time, the snow will cover your clothes. When you get into the house or some place that is warm, the snow will melt and your clothes will become wet. There are two ways to fix it. One is taking off all the snow before you get into the house. Another is working hard to dry your clothes in the house. Anyhow, you must have a lot of troubles because of snow.
Second, accidents are also a serious problem during snowing. When you read the newspaper, I'm sure that you can exactly find some news about snow accidents. In winter, people must wear snow boots to walk on the snow. That sounds safe, but they forget one horrible thing – ice. Ice comes up because snow melts and freezes. It is hard for people to discover it. Many people slip because of ice every day. Some of them even break their bones. This is very dangerous. Traffic accidents are also a serious problem when it is snowing. The road is full of snow and ice. In spite of the people, it is also slippery for the car. The car can get out of control easily. So I suggest that every driver buy snow tires and pay attention during driving.
Third, there are limited sports you can play in the snow. For instance, it is almost impossible to play the outdoor sports, such as soccer or baseball. In fact, you can play in indoor areas, but it is very inconvenient for people to find and rent these places. For this reason, people will lack exercise. Health problems also come up. You lose most fun and a lot of health. In my opinion, keep doing exercise at home.
In conclusion, snow brings out many problems. Some people hate it, and others don’t care about it. However, you can prevent and overcome these problems in many ways. Winter is a good season of the year. Please treat it in a right way, and enjoy it.

They can’t find out the disadvantages of snow because they just have a short-term trip, not a long- term living. Beside that, people also like to play with snowballs and make a snowman for fun. However, they only know the advantages of snow. They don’t know how many accidents happen everyday and how inconvenient things are for people because of snow. Thus, I am going to talk about the disadvantages of snow. They always come up in three ways: clothes, accidents, and limited sports.
First of all, let’s talk about the clothes problems. When it is snowing, you must wear a lot of clothes to keep warm, such as jacket, gloves, scarf, hat, and snow boots. They can protect us for fear that you get cold, but you have to spend a lot of time to wear it. If you suddenly want to go outside, you must solve the clothes problem first. In addition, if you stay outside in the snow for a long time, the snow will cover your clothes. When you get into the house or some place that is warm, the snow will melt and your clothes will become wet. There are two ways to fix it. One is taking off all the snow before you get into the house. Another is working hard to dry your clothes in the house. Anyhow, you must have a lot of troubles because of snow.
Second, accidents are also a serious problem during snowing. When you read the newspaper, I'm sure that you can exactly find some news about snow accidents. In winter, people must wear snow boots to walk on the snow. That sounds safe, but they forget one horrible thing – ice. Ice comes up because snow melts and freezes. It is hard for people to discover it. Many people slip because of ice every day. Some of them even break their bones. This is very dangerous. Traffic accidents are also a serious problem when it is snowing. The road is full of snow and ice. In spite of the people, it is also slippery for the car. The car can get out of control easily. So I suggest that every driver buy snow tires and pay attention during driving.
Third, there are limited sports you can play in the snow. For instance, it is almost impossible to play the outdoor sports, such as soccer or baseball. In fact, you can play in indoor areas, but it is very inconvenient for people to find and rent these places. For this reason, people will lack exercise. Health problems also come up. You lose most fun and a lot of health. In my opinion, keep doing exercise at home.
In conclusion, snow brings out many problems. Some people hate it, and others don’t care about it. However, you can prevent and overcome these problems in many ways. Winter is a good season of the year. Please treat it in a right way, and enjoy it.
How to Annoy Your Parents

Have you annoyed your parents? In my case, I always annoy my parents. Especially, it is my mother. And, we do not talk with each other for awhile. I think most parents are annoyed by their children. Sometimes they irritate them. Here are some examples of how you annoy parents.
First of all, you make your parents annoyed about school. If you do not do your homework, skip a class, and do not study before exams, your parents must be annoyed. In my case, when I showed my grades to my mother, she almost always was annoyed. But, I always smiled!!!
Next, they are annoyed about your attitude. If you are scolded by your mother, and you ignore her, she might be annoyed. I always ignore my mother. But about two days later, we talk to each other. Then, a few weeks later, we do not talk to each other.

If you are not on time, your parents would be angry. For example, you don’t finish your homework before a deadline, or are late for school because of staying up late. Why are parents so grumpy about time? Because, it is very important to work. So, parents want you to get into the habit of being time for your future.
Most parents have expectations of their children. So, if you don’t study harder, they tell you, "Study or you can’t go out to play!" and you study unwillingly with sulking. But, you must not forget that they scold you. If they don’t have any expectations of you, they never scold you.

Do you want to gain weight? Actually, some my friends have asked me how to gain weight. I must be specialist in gaining weight. Gaining weight is very easy when you follow my instructions!!
First of all, foods you eat are important. If you like healthy food like vegetables, it is not good if you want to gain weight. You must eat a big meal like hamburgers or big meat. Then, you go to bed quickly after eating meal. So, the nutrition you took is assimilated easily.
In the next step, not getting enough sleep makes it easy to get fat. We have to sleep about 6-8 hours, but some people cannot get enough sleep. They can gain weight more easily than people who have enough sleep.
The last step, you do not do sports or intense activity. You can watch the TV on holiday with a lot of snacks. Or you can lie down and read magazines with McDonald’s every day. Eating cakes and sweets, and drinking coke and juice will easily make you fat. I think this way it is easy to gain weight.

The next thing to do is to promote friendly relations. If there is a good relationship between you and your parents, you will gain what you want. It is not easy sometimes, but it will be worth it. One time, I gave up arguing with them and I said sorry to them. They were surprised. After that day, our family went shopping together. I found a new CD player that I really wanted to own, but I thought it was very expensive. I just took a look at it. And then, what a surprise! My parents saw me liking the CD player very much, so they bought it for me. Therefore, I learned that saying sorry to parents is more easy than fighting them. After that, I tried many things that let my parents think that I became good and was to be trusted. I trained them to believe that I am able to take care myself. Finally, I am free!

Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year is a big festival in China. Chinese New Year is also called Nian. It celebrates the new start of next year. And why do we call it Nian? There is a legend about this: at the beginning of the first month of each year, the monster called Nian would come down from the mountains to hurt villagers. To defeat this monster, they would beat drums and gongs, burn bamboo and light fireworks to scare it away. So the Chinese New Year is called Nian.
At Chinese New Year, people do many things. First, people will clean their home because the people believe that if the home is dirty when the New Year arrives, the bad luck from last year will carry forward. 
Second, people will get together for a dinner on the eve of Chinese New Year.
Third, everyone will dress in new clothes and visit their relatives' and friends' home. The children look forward to receiving "red packets" and these are given to the children and adults who are not married. These "red packets" have some money inside and represent good fortune for the next year. The children are very happy to receive the red packets.
Finally, the tradition in New Year is the Lion Dance. Sometimes there is a Dragon Dance too. The Dance goes with beating drums and gongs. People believe that it will bring good luck to them. So Lion Dance is very important part of Chinese New Year. Those are the things people will do in Chinese New Year. 
The Chinese New Year's Eve dinner is very large and traditional. The people will eat fish, chicken, noodles, and dumplings, etc. However, the fish used in dinner must be a whole fish, to represent togetherness and abundance. The chicken must be with a head, tail, and feet, to represent completeness. The noodles should be uncut, to represent long life. And "dumpling" in Chinese sounds like "get together." People are particular about New Year’s food.
Before the New Year, people will decorate their home. They will paste up some “Fai Chun” and the Fai Chun is writing about the Auspicious Messages. During the New Year, you can always hear the people say "KUNG HEI FAT CHOI." It means "hope you can become rich." Of course, you still can hear many auspicious messages during the New Year.
In conclusion, Chinese New Year is a very good traditional festival. You can see the friends or relatives you didn’t see for long time. Everybody gets together to see the Lion Dance and have dinner. The adults make the plans for the next year. The children receive the red packets. And at New Year, you can have many kinds of food. So I like Chinese New Year very much!

Have you ever broken up with your boyfriend? Then how many times have you been dumped by your boyfriend? Nobody wants to be dumped because it is very pathetic if you have that kind of situations. However if you don’t want to go out with your boyfriend anymore and say good-bye from you, how can you do? There is one way to break up with your boyfriend easily. I think you just encourage him to dump you off. If you make him disappointed with you, I’m sure your boyfriend tries to break up with you, and you can break up with your boyfriend easily. There are several steps involved in getting dumped by your boyfriend. When you will carry out these steps, please be careful. You might get hatred from your boyfriend.
Begin by approaching with external things. First, don’t dress up too much. Every date you should wear the clothes that he doesn’t like. In addition, you can’t take a shower before the date, and you should show up in front of your boyfriend with the worst appearance. He might think that he doesn’t want to walk with you.
Next, please keep your room messy. If your boyfriend comes over your room and sees it, he should be disappointed in you. Moreover, even if he isn’t disappointed with your room, if you make tasteless meals, he won’t ever come over to your place.

Christmas for Me

This is my first Christmas stay at Canada. When I was child, I wanted to have a snowy Christmas. Now my wish can come true. I can see snow all around and I can make a snowman. I tried to make a snowman, but the snow is very dry. So I can’t make a snowman. Perhaps I need to ask someone for advice.
My host family has decorated the house. First, they use a string of colorful lights around the house. outside the house there is an inflatable Santa and deer. When you enter the house, you will see the stockings hung on the walls.
Second, in the living room, there is a big fake Christmas tree. The tree is taller than me and is approximately one meter wide. The top of tree has an angel. There is a colored ribbon and a string of lights around the tree and many different decorations on the tree.
There is a special decoration. There are three baby photos on the decoration. The photos are my host family children when they were babies. Each decoration has its story. For instance, there are two decorations that come from my host family grandfather and grandmother. And six Peter Pan toys on the tree. But I forget why there are only six toys on the tree. Anyway, the tree is full of decorations, and it is an important memory for my host family.
Finally, in the house, there isn’t only one Christmas tree. When you go down to the basement, you can see a Christmas village and another Christmas tree. This is a small one and on the top of the tree is a star. It is different style from the big one.
I am so happy, I can have Christmas ambience this year. And I will try to make a snowman again.

Curling

It was so exciting to play curling with ESL students.
We went to the curling arena last month. I have never played curling. It was the first time playing for me. Before we went there, we watched a curling game on video, but it looked so difficult. I was uncertain of my ability to play it naturally; however, there wasn't anything to worry about.
At first, it was so slippery on the ice. Sadlly, I slipped two times, but it is also experience. We practiced how to play all morning, and we played in the afternoon. The games were more fun than practice. It was difficult to approximate to the center of circle, but when it succeeded beyond our hopes, I was so happy and excited.
If I can play curling again, I'm absolutely sure I want to play again!

Celebration of Christmas in Ethiopia

Christmas is celebrated on a different day and month in Ethiopia. Christmas celebration in Ethiopia is on January 7 every year because Ethiopia has a different calendar. On this day in the morning, everybody went to church to pray.
We have a game called ganna. It looks like a hockey game but it is a little different. This is a game only men play. We play it only for Christmas.
After this, everybody goes back home and calls friends, family, and homeless people to eat together and give gifts.

The Chief Events of November 2008

There were lots of events in November and all of them became unforgettable recollections. At the beginning of November, I had a valuable experience at the Halloween Party. Most of the ESL students went to the party and they disguised themselves admirably in Halloween costumes. At the party, we had a good dinner with alcoholic drinks and danced with rhythmical music. The party also had some pleasant events.
Next, I went to New York City with my friends. My friend Yusuke already wrote about NYC so I’m going to write about it briefly. I had a lot of worries about the trip and especially I was worried about the connecting flight. Unexpectedly, we could catch it easily and also we could receive an entry visa at the Vancouver Airport. Most of the time I spent in Manhattan and hung around each day. Of course, I visited almost all places that are famous in Manhattan. At the World Trade Center, I experienced an indescribable atmosphere. When I went there, I realized the misery of the unforgettable event. I felt there were a lot of funny, strange, and kind people in Manhattan. Anyway, I had a wonderful time in NYC and I got home all right so this trip was really fabulous.
In addition, I played curling with ESL students and it was the first time to play the sport. I knew the sport but I didn’t know how fun the sport is. Actually curling is a very interesting sport and I realized that when I was playing curling. It looks easy when I watch curling on TV, but I understood the difficulty when I played it. This experience also became my good memory.
After that, from 6 or 6:30 p.m., there was a Christmas Parade on 100 street. I arrived there 10 minutes before the beginning of the party. But many people were already waiting for the parade and I was astonished at the number of people. The parade in itself was marvelous and everyone looked happy. People in the parade devised a lot of gorgeous things on the floats. I simultaneously thought the candy sales were unimaginable.
Thus there were lots of wonderful events in November, so I absolutely had a marvelous time. I really appreciate these events and all concerned.

My First Experiences

I had two kinds of events on October 25. For one thing, I watched buffalo that my host father and host mother’s father butchered.
I woke up at six o’clock in the morning even though I went to bed late because I was excited about watching it. Then I prepared to go out and I went out at 7:30 a.m. After that, we went to my host mother’s parents' farm and I watched them approach the buffalo, but because buffalo are dangerous, I couldn’t. So, I waited in the car with my host mother and host brother.
In a half an hour or so, he shot the buffalo. She pulled up behind the buffalo. Unfortunately it was cold and windy outside. Thus I got out of the car to watch what they were butchering and went back many times. It was awesome. I had never seen anything like that before and I could touch buffalo’s stomach, lung, liver, bowel and so forth. I had a wonderful experience. The most surprising of all today was when my host father shot 3 times; they always died. Yet this time, the buffalo didn’t die even though it was shot in the same place. The buffalo that my host father shot 5 times finally died.
Another event was Tara's wedding. Lately, some Japanese people celebrate a marriage at church. So it's a little similar to a Canadian wedding. However Japanese traditional wedding is totally different. I was glad to go there and I could know how they celebrated.
Those are my precious memories.

As far as I know, Halloween is a funny and happy festival in Europe and North America. But on the other hand, we have a spooky ghost day in China. It is opposite completely. In fact, Chinese ghost day is scary and unhappy. It is on July 14 in the Chinese lunar calendar.
In local folklore,the gates of the underworld are opened and ghosts are free to roam among the living. Sometimes they like to annoy people.
On that day, too many Chinese burn some gold and silver paper for the ghosts and spirits. It's because the Chinese believe that it can appease the wayward ghosts and lonely spirits.
The ceremony was taking place on the sidewalk that night. In my city, Macau, my government allows people to burn the offering for the ghosts at that time.
As for me, I took some photos to show you how to burn the offering in this Chinese ghost day.

No New York, No Life

I went to New York City, and then I met my friend there after a long time. First of all, I saw the Metropolitan Museum which was terribly huge. I couldn’t see everything. If you saw everything, it would take the whole day. Next, I hung around Times Square. There were a lot of remarkable buildings. I had smoked beef steaks. They were quite expensive, but the other guys had a lot of money. It meant they could pay easily. I also didn’t mind paying there. At the end of the day, I went to the Empire State Building to see night views. Manhattan has so much attractive scenery. There were beautiful scenic night views.
Next day, I went to Ground Zero. I thought it was similar to the Hiroshima Bomb Dome. The World Trade Center (WTC) had been there, which was the tallest building in New York. I couldn’t find Ground Zero, so I heard of it from a Japanese lady near the subway station. There was already the new foundation of buildings. It took seven years after September 2001. Manhattan is the center of the money market, so it has many Japanese people. Sad to say, the WTC also had many Japanese people, and there were many Japanese victims. I received facts directly. It made me sad, but I thought we shouldn’t forget the facts. Next, I went to the Statue of Liberty, and I was excited there. I appreciated France because it gave the statue to the US on the 100th anniversary American independence. I had Korean food in midtown, and then I hung around there. I had a good time.
The third day, I went shopping at the outlet mall. There were 220 stores. I bought clothes, a watch, and something for US$300 or so. I made good use of a day.
On the final day, I had a steak at a fancy restaurant on Wall Street that was very expensive because Wall Street has lots of headquarters of financial companies. The dish tasted very good though, and then I went to 5th Avenue.
This trip was so good.

My First Halloween

This year, I experienced my first Halloween. As soon as Halloween was drawing near, almost all the houses began to be decorated. My host family was decorating with stuff outside and inside of the house, too, so I was looking forward to Halloween.
The day before Halloween, I made a carved pumpkin with my host kids. Though I am older, I was carving earnestly like the kids. On the very day of Halloween, I gave treats for children who visit my house. Children wore such cute, scary, and funny costumes, but everyone looked so pretty to me. At first, I was worried if my house was "tricked" by kids, but it didn't happen.
I envied children, because they can get a lot of treats!

Untouched Powder and my Own Two Feet: The Effort and Joy of my First Snowshoe Hike

I’m not thinking about anything else. It’s just me, my board, and the snow. The sun is shining very brightly, even through my darkened snowboard goggles. On my snowboard I’m riding down the slope, which we hiked up only a few minutes ago. The snow is so soft that it feels like I am riding on a big cloud. The sun gets shaded at nearly every turn by a big wall of snow. I can feel some of the small snow crystals melting on my cheek. I drive through the forest full of white trees. The limbs are bent down by the weight of the snow. There are a few fresh deer tracks in the snow, and I stop to look around in hope of seeing one deer or goat. I can hear the other guys behind me, screaming and yelling, full of joy. We are all centered now, to get on track for the last 500 meters of this ride. I’m trying to make signs in the snow by riding in the track of my friend in front of me. Finally, I can see the point where we started this morning. In all my years on a snowboard, I’ve never had a moment which compares to the effort and joy of my first snowshoe hike.
Going with friends who have similar skills contributed to the joy of that day. My best friend asked me if I was interested in a snowshoe hike. At first, I said no because I was afraid of getting left behind, but then he told me who else would go with him. I knew all of them, and a few are very good snowboarders and skiers with many experiences with the snowshoes. That was good because they knew the area, but I thought that my stamina wouldn’t be enough to keep up with them. But the reason why I agreed to the snowshoe hike was that he told me the other people who would join use. Some guys had the same or less stamina than I did, so I didn’t have to be scared that I would get lost on this trip. My answer was very clear after I thought of this: “Yes, I will.”
I checked my equipment again and again, looking forward to using it for the first time. My parents gave me snowshoes, poles and a backpack that I can strap on my snowboard. Until that day I had only looked at them and [rejoiced like a little kid the first day I would use them. Because I have practiced snowboarding since I was twelve, I had very good standard equipment. It proved itself very often on the slope, never mind if it was sunny or stormy. But there is a big difference between snowboarding and hiking clothes. I had very good clothes for the ride down, but what’s with the hike up? Your body produces a lot of heat while you are walking, so the normal snowboard clothes would be too hot. I got a new jacket, a windbreaker, thinner gloves, and sunglasses. The gloves and the cap are just for the first 200 meters, then you don’t need then anymore, but you need them ready at hand in case you stop. Especially on the vertex, you have to be fast to change your clothes because it gets cold as soon as you stop walking.
Downloading new music for my iPod was one of the important preparations for me. When I’m on the snowboard, I always carry my Ipod with me. The right music pushes me a lot and gives me more power. The music I listen to depends on the day and my mood. Therefore, I had to choose the right music, which wasn’t as easy as I thought. At first I searched on my drive, the music I always listen to, but then I decided to get something different, something new. After one week of searching on the Internet, I believed that I found the best music for this trip. In fact, I didn’t pick one kind of music. I mixed it all up and got a play list with songs for each part of the hike. For the first 30 minutes, I selected some easy music like reggae. After a while, when I start to get tired, I got some faster music, a kind of punk rock. Fast and stupid, that’s what I like. This should push me for the whole distance. Finally, if I reach the peak, I would want something to come down a little bit. I thought the best music for the few minutes to unlatch and ride down should be a gentle drum ‘n’ bass. After I had my perfect playlist, I hoped that the weather would cooperate.
A few weekends passed until there was perfect weather. One point on which everybody agreed was the weather. We didn’t want to go on stormy, ugly day. All of us listened intently to the weather forecast. We knew that it is not very easy find a nice day on which everybody had enough time. However we tried it. There are only a few days in the winter when everything is perfect. The best month for this is mostly late December. At this time you get the most meters of fresh fallen snow, and the bottom to the top of the hill is a snow mantle. In the following months, the snow will not be as fluffy anymore because there are some warm days and very cold nights. This happens especially on days without clouds. The upper film melts on such a day and in the night it freezes. Then you have a thin ice on the fluffy snow, which isn’t really nice to ride on. When it snows again on this coat, the risk of avalanches increases dramatically. On the opposite side of slope where we hiked up is a dangerous avalanche hillside. We couldn’t wait too long for our trip or we wouldn’t be able to make it. Finally, we got a marvelous day a few days after Christmas. It snowed about 30 centimeters two nights before; in fact, we had about one and a half meters of wonderful untouched powder. This would be a perfect day for my first snowshoe hike.
Standing at the bottom of the slope, looking up to the top, gave me a small feeling of fear. We drove about 30 minutes, with a Mitsubishi Pickup belonging to my cousin. It was big enough to carry six people and their equipment, to the point where we intended to start from. The road was so snowy that we required all four snow chains to get up to this point. After we arrived, everybody began to sort his equipment. I prepared myself and waited for my friends. I looked up to the slope, and I couldn’t even see the top of it. I thought to myself: “Can I handle this?” But there was no time to think about it, because the first guys were already started. I started my Ipod and was queuing as the fourth. The first one had the hardest job, to create the trail in which all of the following would walk. After about one hour, I doffed my gloves and took off my hat because I was already sweating, and it was a pleasant break for me. When the music changed to punk rock, I felt that it pushed me a little bit. Two of my friends and I configured the end of the queue. The better ones were about a hundred meters in front of us. It was okay to walk slower, because we couldn’t lose them anyway, by the reason of the trail. We had a break about every 20 minutes and talked too each other, took pictures, and caught our wind. It was very relaxing and we had no pressure to reach the top in time. I was breathless and thought this would never end as I saw the others waiting for us not far from the top. After three and a half-hours of climbing, we crested all together. I was speechless when I saw this gorgeous panoramic view. You could see miles over miles, apex after apex. Everybody was in hurry to change his wet t-shirt and his hiking clothes to the snowboard clothes in the cold wind on the peak. The time up there was definitely too short, but the best part began after we recovered our breaths and got our equipment ready, was the ride down on this slope full of powder.
When we arrived at our car, everybody had a big smile on his face, and so did I. We packed our equipment into the car and drove down to the village. After we drank the beer of success all together, everybody went home tired but happy. I honestly can say that this was one of the best days in my life, and maybe the best sleep too.

The first one had the hardest job, to create the trail in which all of the following would walk. After about one hour, I doffed my gloves and took off my hat because I was already sweating, and it was a pleasant break for me. When the music changed to punk rock, I felt that it pushed me a little bit. Two of my friends and I configured the end of the queue. The better ones were about a hundred meters in front of us. It was okay to walk slower, because we couldn’t lose them anyway, by the reason of the trail. We had a break about every 20 minutes and talked too each other, took pictures, and caught our wind. It was very relaxing and we had no pressure to reach the top in time. I was breathless and thought this would never end as I saw the others waiting for us not far from the top. After three and a half-hours of climbing, we crested all together. I was speechless when I saw this gorgeous panoramic view. You could see miles over miles, apex after apex. Everybody was in hurry to change his wet t-shirt and his hiking clothes to the snowboard clothes in the cold wind on the peak. The time up there was definitely too short, but the best part began after we recovered our breaths and got our equipment ready, was the ride down on this slope full of powder.
When we arrived at our car, everybody had a big smile on his face, and so did I. We packed our equipment into the car and drove down to the village. After we drank the beer of success all together, everybody went home tired but happy. I honestly can say that this was one of the best days in my life, and maybe the best sleep too.
